Hot summer weather is brilliant, we are all in agreement. We get the chance to open the windows, drop the top or sunroof on the car and can take full advantage of the sunshine by having plenty of BBQ’s and summer activities with friends and family.
What we don’t appreciate is the increased insect activity that comes with the summer season.
Let’s be honest, there is nothing worse than having a fly, bee or wasp in the house or workplace when all you wanted to do was to open a window to get a gentle refreshing breeze or to enjoy that lovely sunshine! With allergies to bee and wasp stings at the forefront of summer weather, can you really run the risk and allow these insects access to your home or workplace?
How can you effectively control the increased insect infestation while still enjoying the summer sun?
You could invest in a bug zapper. We’ve found that they tend to have mixed results and only reduce the issue, some insects aren’t drawn in and thus still end up ruining your day. What is worse, using a bug zapper costs money. You need to leave the device plugged in for it to have a chance of being anywhere close to sufficient. Can you really afford to leave something plugged in all day every day and even on a night? Probably not!
The second option is insect sprays. Again, something we don’t like to advise on. Insect sprays can open up a wide range of health risks due to the chemicals used to produce them. These sprays should not be used around children and pregnant women and in some cases can even cause seizures, confusion and insomnia!
Similar to the bug zapper, one spray isn’t a one-stop-shop, you might find that certain insects will be immune to different types of sprays. Do you have the time and money to have 101 different types of spray for all the different types of insects that may enter your home or workplace?
The third option. Leave your windows and doors closed. We don’t like this option either. We want you to enjoy the cool breeze that leaving your window or door open will provide, without getting the additional insects that come with it.
